Maintaining Your Power in Network Marketing Meetings
Maintaining your power in a network marketing meeting is about five things: 1. Posture, 2. Position, 3. Presence, 4. Pace; 5. Professionalism – the 5 P’s of presenting. Whether you are doing a one-on-one, a home meeting, a hotel opportunity meeting, or having a discussion on the telephone, the four elements of “Power” will help you keep in control of the interaction.
The reason it is important to maintain control of your network marketing meeting is so you can keep your audience focused on performing an objective evaluation of your product or opportunity. You have value to bring to the table, it’s just a question of how that resonates with whomever you are presenting to or meeting with. Maintaining control keeps the focus where it needs to be – on adding value to the prospect’s life.
Maintaining Control of Your Network Marketing Meeting
Maintaining control of your network marketing meeting is simple:
- You are the expert in this business – act like it
- Enter every meeting with a purpose in mind – to educate, inspire, learn, add value, etc.
- Don’t focus on the outcome, only the process of presenting what it is you are there to present
- Be organized and efficient, and anticipate the needs of your prospect
- Create an agenda and stick to it
- Keep the pace moderate but moving
- Interact with the prospect – if it’s a one-on-one, ask questions and let the prospect talk. Listen carefully to them, and rephrase and repeat their key issues back to them. It it’s a group meeting, control the questions in blocks, and defer any that don’t serve the purpose of the meeting
- Exude relaxed intensity and confidence, not arrogance
- Make eye contract
- Put energy in your voice, and keep the pace a notch above where the audiences seems to be (mirror but amp it up a bit)
- Write down important questions, etc., that your prospect(s) ask or state
- Be concise with what you are presenting – get to the point of the benefits that address the prospects needs – if it’s a group meeting, present the most compelling attributes of your product and opportunity. If it’s a one-on-one or a small group, respond to individual challenges to the extent you can, and defer others for a follow-up meeting.
There are some of the more important elements of maintaining control of your network marketing meeting. While some or all may seem like common sense, especially if you’ve run a lot of meetings, they are not necessarily obvious to your new team members. Remember, network marketing is a business anyone can get into, so you shouldn’t assume too much regarding skill sets until you get to know your new team better.
The 5 P’s and How to Use Them To Maintain Your Power in Meetings and Presentations
Professional: You are the network marketing professional, and have skill, knowledge, insights, talents, mindset, and vision that equates to massive value as a leader and mentor. Your product is outstanding and makes a positive difference in the lives of people all over the world, and your opportunity is with an outstanding company, managed by a top notch team who are dedicated to the success of their distributors and affiliates. You bring value in three critical areas: Product, Opportunity, and Leadership.
Pace: You know it’s important to understand the challenges the prospect(s) face, and that requires asking questions that resonate with the prospect. You can’t rush a prospect into giving you a list of dissatisfactions in their life – you have to build rapport at a pace that is comfortable to them. Nevertheless, in a network marketing meeting of any kind you should always proceed with a sense of urgency and relaxed intensity, conveying and energetic enthusiasm for your business. Doing so will keep the pace moving. The reason is you want the prospect focused on the possibilities of how your product, opportunity, or leadership can solve their challenge. Keeping the energy and the pace up creates an atmosphere of possibilities, and you are the network marketing expert that brings those possibilities to life.
Presence: Presence means you’re engage with the prospect(s). If it’s a one-on-one, you lead the conversation with questions, showing a sincere interest in learning about the prospects challenges and the explaining how they can meet those challenges with your network marketing product, business, or leadership. You keep your focus on them, eliminating all other distractions. If it’s a group meeting, you engage the audience with eye contact and movement. You emphasize how your network marketing product or opportunity provides solutions to a broad set of challenges. You act with energy and enthusiasm, and exude a degree of relaxed intensity and confidence.
Position: You are an expert in the field of international marketing and distribution, leadership development, and entrepreneurialism: You are a network marketing professional. You are a leader with vision of what can be, and the courage to take action to make that vision reality. You’re the kind of person that people want to follow. Most people have very little knowledge of how network marketing really works, and you have the knowledge to bring clarity to them; and in so doing show them the possibilities that could accrue to them. You think big and play big, and that positions you as a focused, dedicated professional who is proud of your knowledge and skill, what you do to change lives, and the value you bring to a broad spectrum of endeavors.
Posture: Your products are excellent, your company is outstanding, the opportunity creates compelling possibilities, and you are an experience, knowledgable leader and professional. Your focus is on the process of communication, education, and inspiration. You seek to understand the prospects challenges, or to communicate to a group the problems that can be solved with your product and opportunity. You provide the information, and they provide the decision. You are detached from the outcome. Although you’d like to have everyone join your network marketing business, you realize that what matters most is getting the right people on your team. To you, it doesn’t matter whether they join your business or not. It would be great to have them along for the ride, but if not, that’s OK, too. You are confident and filled with a vision of what can be. You have a mindset that is unshakeable. You are postured as a network marketing leader and professional.
The Bottom Line
Network marketing meetings are fun, informative, and part of the experience. The “network” in network marketing tells the story. It’s about “networking” with people to tell them about the possibilities. If you embrace the 5 Ps above you’ll find it easier to control the conversation, and in so doing bring value to the prospect.
You’re a pro, so act like it. Be proud of who you are, and proud of being part of such a dynamic profession. Go big and live large! Have fun and enjoy the journey!
