The Transformational ’20s
We live in the transformational ’20s, a time of unprecedented change and opportunity. Yet, so many people are struggling to come to grips with the state of change and the velocity with which change is happening. There is a simple and natural means to put the struggle behind us: entrepreneurship in its natural state.
To understand this natural state, let me share a simple definition of “entrepreneur”: An entrepreneur is someone who identifies the needs of people, and with courage, conviction, and resourcefulness connects those people with a means of fulfilling their needs.
The definition above is simply a definition of a good human. We all possess this natural ability. What has suppressed this natural state in many are the institutions of society. Those institutions are, for example, government, media, schools, and religions. No, not every government, media, school, or religion is a source of suppression, but these are the institutions of society with the most pervasive influence. It would be reasonable to ask what, if anything, these institutions are doing to promote and celebrate the opportunity and responsibility to become the greatest most fulfilled version of ourselves so that we may make the world a better place?
As a human race, we can make so much more progress if only we will embrace the natural state of entrepreneurship we all possess. It’s not about being the originator of the means, rather, it’s about being the conduit from the source to those who would benefit. That’s entrepreneurship.
We all take different paths in our entrepreneurial journeys, but all have the same purpose: to make a difference in the life of a person somewhere on this planet.
If today you ask someone on the street to describe an entrepreneur, in the majority of cases they will mention a name like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, or other high profile entrepreneurial personalities. They will rarely if ever recite the definition above. Few will declare their entrepreneurial state. But, this is going to change very quickly in the transformational ’20s.
Today, in the transformational ’20s, we have a vast array of platforms from which to express our entrepreneurial state of humanity. There is no shortage of opportunity: there is abundance beyond comprehension! The nexus of events, technology and humanity is creating an entrepreneurial revival of unprecedented magnitude. And when people begin to embrace their natural state of entrepreneurship, the world will be a better place for all.
